Thursday, February 6, 2025 - Day 10 - We travel from Toulouse to Montpellier Toulouse: Sunny 48°F (9°C) Montpellier: Sunny 52°F (11°C)
Today was a travel day! Up early, dressed, packed and tidied.
Finally figured out how the lights work now that we are leaving. We really liked Toulouse!
Walked to train station and read about the tribute to Charlie Hebdo massacre from Jan. 2015.
We had to check out of our residence at 11am, but the train to Montpellier wasn't until 14H45, so we had some time to kill. We spent some of it soaking up the sun and the vibes by the Toulouse Matabiau Gare.
After an hour or so, we decided to grab some lunch at the train station, since it was noon, and the train was still a couple of hours away. The restaurant we found there was excellent - Brassarie Ô Mana. Best part? They had ORANGINA!
The food was amazing. I had a BLT salad and it was loaded with yummy pork belly, sun-dried tomatoes, and butter lettuce. Jamil had the Saucisse Toulousien with mashed potatoes so yummy!
After eating, we went back outside in the sun to wait till the train was due.
Finally the train arrived. Fortunately, the journey is only about two hours; because it was older, and quite crowded. We did have assigned seats, which was great. I was really happy to arrive in Montpellier and get off that train!
Having said that, we had a 1km walk to our place on Rue de l'Aiguillerie. Montpellier feels very different from Toulouse. First off, there's palm trees!
There were a few other tourists around, despite it being a Thursday in February, so we didn't feel too out of place with our backpacks and snapping photos as we wandered through the Place Du Comedie
We arrived at our apartment and whoa. It's like a castle! Here's the outer door:
And down the spooky corridor to the inner door:
You enter into the living room:
And the cute kitchen
Finally, the bedroom is at the top of those crazy stairs:
So lovely!
After unpacking, we went to the nearby grocery (a Monoprix) to pick up supplies. It was chacuterie, pasta, and chocolate tarts for dinner!
The place also has Netflix; we found an excellent Spanish movie, called "Nowhere" (which, incidentily, was the most-watched non-english movie on Netflix last year) and watched the French dubbed version with English subtitles!
We were grateful for the cozy bed!
