Friday, January 31, 2025 - Lunch in the Square and an Evening Stroll Weather: Sunny 55°F (13°C)
Today we had breakfast chez Guerlin - Skyr and baguette with butter and jam. Nice slow morning; we weren't ready to go out until 12:30pm.
Our goal was to find a SIM card for my phone, so we were tracking down a store called "Orange". When we found the spot, the woman there sent us over to the "tabac". This was across and down the street on the corner, but was essentially a window where folks were buying lottery tickets and cigarettes.
It was super sketch for trying to purchase something for my phone, so we bailed on the entire project and decided it was time for lunch. We walked over to Place St. Georges and decided to eat at Le Ligot.
It was a lovely scene. People here are very intentional about taking time out for lunch, having an unhurried meal with friends and chatting. This is not a culture where grabbing a quick bite on the run or eating at your desk is tolerated.
It was a bit chilly, but we were sitting in the sun, and the restaurant had blankets we could put on our laps.
We both had the "plat du jour" (plate of the day) which was poulet et frites (chicken and fries) and included a salad. It was delicious and the whole scene was definitely a mood.
On the way home, we decided to capture the cuteness of the world's narrowest elevator in our building:
Jamil and I together barely fit, though the max # of personnes is 4! Not sure how that might fit other than vertical stacking.
Note that even though our room is on the 4th floor, which isn't so bad for taking the stairs, in Europe, the ground floor is floor 0 so technically the walk up to our room is 5 floors. We've done it a few times, but the elevator is more fun.
On the way home, we stopped at the Intermarché supermarket and picked up some wine, more food, and a paring knife since the one supplied in the room's kitchenette wouldn't even slice butter.
We had a call with Ben and Nick and worked on this blog. We attempted to set ourselves up to watch Severance on AppleTV+, but it doesn't like that we are in France and we were unable to get it working. Sadly, it stopped about 10 minutes into the first episode so we thought it was working. But then it wasn't and it was sad. We will survive (we did get it working later).
